Undaunted by Deficit Vikings Fans Rally for Stadium

ST. PAUL - On the heels of a $1.2 billion state deficit announced Thursday, some Vikings fans rallied at the State Capitol yesterday in an attempt to bilk taxpayers for a $750 million subsidy to build a new football stadium.  Even as the red ink of debt spilled across the State Capitol steps following the grim economic forecast, rally organizers, “Save the Vikes,” were undeterred in their quest to line the pockets of billionaire Zygi Wilf and build yet another taxpayer-funded stadium.

Members of “Save the Vikes” argue that without a new stadium the Vikings will leave the Twin Cities in search of another football home – like Los Angeles.  However, that is nothing more than eager football fans buying the Wilf propaganda that he would consider moving the team.

“Vikings fans can be likened to greyhounds running after an artificial rabbit, both chase after something that is not real.” said Phil Krinkie, President of the Taxpayers League of Minnesota.  “The reality is, the Vikings are not going to leave town, and the idea that they would move to Los Angeles is the same scare tactic used time and time again.”

Apparently unfamiliar with sound fiscal policy, “Save the Vikes” founder Cory Merrifield thinks the Legislature needs to tackle the stadium issue, in spite of a projected $1.2 billion budget shortfall in this biennial budget with a $5.4 billion shortfall projected for the next budget.
