Jobless Task Force Slated to Create Job Growth
ST. PAUL – Minnesota House Speaker Margaret Anderson-Kelliher has appointed 36 legislators to a Jobs Task Force, which according to a Minnesota House press release, “will focus on economic development, capital investments and tax policies that will create significant job growth for Minnesotans.” The Task Force is scheduled to meet for the first time on Friday, Sept. 24 at 9:00 a.m. After examining public information on the current employment of legislators appointed to the committee, only six legislators have experience creating jobs in the private sector. Nine others have current jobs in the private sector. Most (17) are full time legislators with little or no income outside the State Legislature. The remaining four are teachers in public or non-profit institutions.
“It is interesting that politicians with little or no experience in running a business are tasked with finding ways to create jobs and spur economic development,” said Phil Krinkie, President of the Taxpayers League of Minnesota. “What kind of real world solutions for economic development could this Task Force put forth?” Krinkie asked.
The task force is also charged with looking at capital investments and tax policy to help Minnesota’s struggling economy. “Based on votes from the last legislative session, their likely solution will be to increase taxes in order to create more government jobs,” Krinkie added.
Of the thirty six State Representatives appointed to the Jobs Task Force, 27 voted for the “job killing tax increases” in the last legislative session. Speaker Kelliher’s ridiculous political posturing of appointing over one-quarter of the Minnesota House to a Job Creation Task Force is similar to a legislative version of “Where’s Waldo?”
