Taxpayers League Announces Campaign to Highlight Tax Raisers

ST. PAUL - It's time for the annual great Minnesota get-together, the Minnesota State Fair. The Taxpayers League of Minnesota is taking the opportunity to educate the nearly 1.7 million attendees on tax and spending issues. The League will be unveiling their campaign starting August 24th, pointing out state legislators' attempts to raise Minnesotans' taxes during the worst economic crisis in 30 years.

"The Minnesota State Fair is usually considered a time to kick off political discussions in the state and we wanted to take advantage of that by helping to educate Minnesota voters on the tax and spending habits of State Legislators," said Taxpayers League President Phil Krinkie. "Along with our billboard campaign, our State Fair educational campaign will include distributing a Minnesota tax facts quiz and our annual Taxpayers League Legislative Scorecard, both at our booth under the grandstand."

"Our first billboards highlight Minnesota Speaker of the House Margaret Anderson-Kelliher and her efforts to raise taxes by $1.5 billion dollars. We will be placing them near the State Fair grounds," added Krinkie.

The Taxpayers League has published its 13th annual Legislative Scorecard that rates every state legislator on tax and spending votes during the 2009 legislative session and also rates their lifetime score during their time in the state legislature.
