Six legislators earn "Best Friend of the Taxpayer" award.
ST. PAUL – This week, the Taxpayers League of Minnesota releases their annual Legislative Scorecard for the 2009 state legislative session. The release marks the 13th annual Taxpayers League scorecard which ranks Minnesota legislators votes on tax and state spending issues.
The Taxpayers League’s annual Legislative Scorecard is Minnesota’s most authoritative ranking of state legislators on fiscal issues. It provides an accounting of each year’s votes, and also provides a lifetime score for legislators that have served multiple terms.
“The Taxpayers League Legislative Scorecard is the best method Minnesotans have to determine who’s after their wallet,” said Phil Krinkie, President of the Taxpayers League of Minnesota. “Politicians are famous for promising one thing during a campaign and then voting another way during the legislative session. The Taxpayers League scorecard is a voter’s guide to hold legislators accountable,” added Krinkie. “This session provided a clear opportunity for taxpayers to determine who was voting to impose billions of dollars in new taxes.”
“We applaud Governor Pawlenty for his commitment not to add to the tax burden of working Minnesotans; the Governor held firm on his promise to veto any tax increase,” added Krinkie. “We are also grateful to House Republicans who voted to uphold the Governor’s vetoes. The taxpayers of Minnesotacame out the winner this year.”
To be named a “Best Friend of the Taxpayer” during a legislative session, a Representative or Senator must score a perfect 100% on the votes selected by the Taxpayers League. The 2009 “Best Friends” are Rep. Bruce Anderson [R-BuffaloTownship], Rep. Mark Buesgens [R-Jordan], Rep. Tom Emmer [R-Delano], Rep. Tom Hackbarth [R-Cedar], Rep. Joe Hoppe [R-Chaska], and Rep. Joyce Peppin [R-Rogers].
