ST. PAUL –  The Minneapolis Star Tribune announced the results of polling taken the week of September 30th through the October 2nd that says a majority of Minnesotans supported the proposed amendment to the Minnesotan State Constitution that would add an $11 billion dollar sales tax increase.  In addition the polling showed that 89% of Minnesotans know very little or nothing of the sales tax increase proposal that will be on the ballot on election day, Tuesday, November 4th.

“It’s hard to believe that this poll accurately reflects the view of most Minnesotans,” said Phil Krinkie, President of the Taxpayers League of Minnesota.  “With our economy faltering and job losses mounting it’s not realistic to think that over 50% of Minnesotans want to tax themselves more for the arts and outdoor entertainment.”

“Obviously we have a lot of voter education to do in the next 30 days,” said Rod Grams, Chairman of the No Constitutional Tax Increase Committee.

“This is a terrible time to burden Minnesotafamilies with another tax increase,” said Grams.  “Special interest groups are asking all Minnesotans to pay for the hobbies and recreation for a few at a time when the cost of gas and groceries are squeezing family budgets, it’s a bad idea.”
