Taxpayers League launches ad campaign
Ready for as much as $5 billion in new taxes?
St. Paul – Despite numerous campaign promises that new Democratic majorities wouldn’t need to raise taxes, bills introduced in the first part of the 2007 legislative session have already tallied nearly $5 billion dollars in new tax increases on Minnesota families and businesses.
In response to this flurry of tax and spending proposals, the Taxpayers League of Minnesota has launched an ad campaign with a combination of newspaper inserts, billboards and direct mail. The goal is to alert Minnesotans of the extreme liberal agenda emanating from the State Capitol.
“We’re launching this campaign to help educate Minnesotans about what a huge appetite for taxing and spending the new liberal majorities in the House and Senate actually have,” said Phil Krinkie, President of the Taxpayers League of Minnesota.
‘Liberalism 101’ is a multimedia campaign which aims to educate Minnesotans about what is happening combined with a call to action. A high-visibility billboard campaign throughout the Metro area is designed to drive traffic to the Taxpayers League website where site visitors will find the same ‘Liberalism 101’ billboard that links to the latest release from the League. In addition, a full color flyer has been inserted into more than 220,000 Metro area newspapers.
“Hopefully the ad campaign will generate hundreds of calls and emails to legislators about their liberal tax and spend agenda,” stated Krinkie.
The Taxpayers League is also distributing thousands of pre-addressed postcards urging Governor Pawlenty to VETO any legislation containing a tax increase.
“We strongly agree with the Governor that an additional $3 billion in state spending is more than enough to satisfy current needs,” said Krinkie.
