Why donate to the Taxpayers League of Minnesota?

Because without your support this year Minnesotans would have seen billions of dollars in new taxes or worse, a prolonged and destructive special legislative session that would have sent our national tax ranking back into the top ten.

But with your help, the Taxpayers League and a small group of conservatives were able to hold back the liberal tax and spend agenda. You know the liberals will be back when the Legislature reconvenes in February. And you know they will make another attempt to make Minnesota's income tax rate the highest in the nation. So until then we need to prepare for their next assault - we need to make sure that Minnesota taxpayers can rest easy knowing their life, liberty and property are safe for few more months.

Over the last ten years, the Taxpayers League of Minnesota has been at the center of the struggle to keep taxpayers from giving an ever greater share of their hard earned money to government. We can't claim to have won every fight, but ask yourself this: without the Taxpayers League, who would do the fighting?

If you're a past supporter and are coming back to help us again, thank you. And if you're a new supporter of the Taxpayers League, welcome. Your help is absolutely critical to our efforts as we promote a responsible agenda in Minnesota. But please stay tuned. The tax grab never stops.

As always, we are delighted to call you a friend of the taxpayer.

2011 Tax Cut Rally

Hello Minnesota!

It’s time once again time for our annual Tax Cut Rally, Minnesota’s largest gathering of conservatives. Over 6,000 people attended last year’s rally and this year we are expecting an even larger crowd. We have been doing this over a decade, but this year, although we all still support and demand lower taxes for Minnesota’s hard working families, the focus will be on reducing the state budget. It’s a “Budget Cut Rally.”

Even in a recession, the tax-and-spenders are still after your pocketbook. We are currently witnessing an unprecedented assault on our freedoms by a massive expansion of government. Now more than ever its critical for people to show-up and make their voices be heard.

This year’s rally will include over 50 exhibitors, food vendors, a freedom shrine and a top line-up of speakers. Bring the entire family and help show your kids the importance of being engaged in the public policy process.

Join The Taxpayers League Property Tax Revolt

Are You Upset About Your Property Taxes?

Don't Just Sit There, Join The Taxpayers League Property Tax Revolt!

We have received several e-mails regarding the dramatic property tax increases many of you saw in your “truth in taxation” statement fromyour local governments last week.

Many homeowners are experiencing double digit property tax increases because cities and counties have failed to reduce spending. In addition, county assessors across the state have chosen not to include short sales or foreclosed properties in their valuation formulas. Eliminating short sales and foreclosures keep home values artificially high. If you are upset with your property tax increase or just want to learn more about property taxes, join the Taxpayers League property tax revolt. Click This email address is being protected from spambots. There are several ways you can take part in the property tax process:

  • Join the Taxpayers League Property Tax Revolt

  • You can appeal your property tax!

  • If you have a question about your property assessed tax value, you can contact the county assessor.

Click here to access Minnesota County websites and find your local assessor

  • Attend your Local Government Meetings

Before November 25th all property owners receive a truth-in-taxation statement in the mail. Originally, the “T-N-T” process required local governments to hold meetings where citizens could react to proposed budgets and taxes; but the state discontinued that requirement in 2009. However, local governments may still voluntarily provide this meeting as an opportunity for citizens to learn about local budget decisions and their property tax impacts. If your local government is providing a meeting opportunity; attend and voice your concerns as a property owner

Click here to find your city website and public hearing notices

  • If your district is not required to have a meeting or you cannot attend, call or write to your elected officials.

Find your City website and local elected officials contact information here

  • If you are concerned with spending, get involved in the budget process early!

By the time you get your truth-in-taxation statement the local budget process is nearly complete. Very little can or will be changed at this stage of the process.

City and county officials begin planning their budgets around the spring of the preceding year; it is critical to attend these meetings and voice your opinions if you want to influence local budgets and property taxes.

  • If you would like to see changes in the property tax process, contact your state representative and state senator.
