A Taxpayers League of Minnesota "Milton Friedman Day" Legislative Update

1. Raise a glass (after work, of course), today is Milton Friedman Day.
2. Think they won’t try and impose a smoking ban on your home next?

1. Its 9 p.m. on a Monday. What else could you possibly have to do?

Dr. Milton Friedman, who passed away last November at the age of 94, was perhaps the most influential economist of the 20th Century and a champion of liberty. To honor Dr. Friedman, January 29, 2007 has been declared Milton Friedman Day – "a celebration of the economist's positive impact on American life and business, and the spread of the benefits of free markets to nations around the globe." At 10pm EST on the 29th, PBS will premiere "The Power of Choice: The Life and Ideas of Milton Friedman," an exclusive documentary on the remarkable life and free market vision of Milton Friedman. The special, produced for PBS by Free to Choose Media, gives viewers a new understanding of the magnitude of this legendary economist's influence on the modern world.

2. Take a long lunch or call in sick…the liberals do it, why can’t you?
As I mentioned on Friday, legislation to enact a statewide smoking ban is currently making its way through the Capitol meat grinder. And though many of the legislators who fought this kind of junk are no longer around to help, showing up at the State Office Building on Thursday and throwing your two-cents into the debate will show that even if the votes aren’t there, the loyal opposition is.
